Did you know that Darwen is home to a Japanese bakery? At 29 Bolton Road you’ll find Sophie, a self taught baker bringing delicious authentic Japanese baked goods to Lancashire!
Sophie lived in Japan for two years and fell in love with the delicious and unique pastries, cakes and bread buns. But on returning to the UK, she quickly realised that she had to take a trip into Manchester if she wanted a taste of Japan… so she decided to bring a Japanese bakery much closer to home!
And we’re very grateful that she did. With both sweet and savoury bakes to choose from, such as curry buns, bean paste buns, miso cookies, matcha cookies, fruit roll cake, baked cheese tarts and lime & jasmine cake, there’s something for everyone. But be sure to get down early, as Mikan Patisserie sells out fast!
Sophie also offers a range of tea, coffee, matcha and ube drinks to accompany your bakes, with tea and coffee sourced from Exchange Coffee Company in Blackburn.
Mikan Patisserie is the perfect spot to start your day in Darwen; grab your goodies and a drink, then head to the market square to sit down and enjoy them with great views of Darwen’s Victorian architecture and the beautiful moors!
