Darwen Library Theatre is an intimate venue where every performance feels up close and personal. Its varied programme brings together stand-up comedy, live music, drama, spoken word, cinema screenings and shows for younger audiences.
The 206-seat auditorium combines tiered seating with excellent views of the fixed stage, while the café bar provides a relaxed place to meet friends and enjoy a drink before the performance.
The theatre sits beneath Darwen’s historic library building. The original undercroft was extended and converted into the venue in 2000, creating a distinctive cultural space right in the heart of town.
One of the things that makes Darwen Library Theatre special is its intimate size. With just over 200 seats, audiences feel close to the stage, the performers and every moment of the show.
That smaller scale creates a brilliant atmosphere for comedy, music, drama and family performances, while still attracting touring acts and familiar names. It feels personal, welcoming and unmistakably Darwen.

Plans are in place for a major transformation of Darwen Library Theatre, including a more accessible town-centre entrance, improved links with the library and a new café bar.
