A state-of-the-art town-centre Youth Zone offering free activities, support, hot meals and inspiring spaces for young people throughout the week.
Darwen Youth Zone gives young people a safe and inclusive place to meet friends, discover new interests and access support from experienced youth workers.
The purpose-built centre operates throughout the week, including evenings, weekends and school holidays. Membership, entry and a hot meal at every session are completely free, helping ensure that every young person can take part regardless of their circumstances.
The new Youth Zone includes spaces for sport, fitness, music, creativity and socialising, with facilities including a recording studio, gym, games area, salon, outdoor sports provision and a Darwen version of the popular Making Rooms creative space.
Alongside the activities, young people can speak to trusted staff, build confidence and receive support around health, wellbeing, education and future opportunities. Dedicated sessions are available for juniors, teenagers and young people with additional needs.
The new Youth Zone officially opened in April 2026, more than doubling the size of Darwen’s previous youth centre and forming part of almost £10 million invested in facilities for young people across Blackburn with Darwen.
The building was delivered through the Government’s Youth Investment Fund with support from Blackburn with Darwen Council. The wider Youth Zone Darwen movement had already been driven forward with leadership from Darwen Town Board chair Wayne Wild and backing from local business patrons, who raised more than £500,000 to establish and protect seven-day youth provision in the town.
The opening celebration was also supported through Darwen’s Pride in Place programme, helping mark an important new chapter for young people in the town.
