Darwen Market | Saturday 14th November
A Festive Favourite Returns
Get ready to add a little extra magic to your festive season as the much-loved Father Christmas Storytelling Experience returns to Darwen Market on Saturday 14 November 2026.
Taking place as part of Darwen’s Christmas Lights Switch-On celebrations, this free family event has become a festive favourite, bringing laughter, excitement and unforgettable Christmas memories to hundreds of local families each year.
A Special Visit from Father Christmas
Despite his busy schedule of checking his naughty and nice lists, preparing presents, feeding the reindeer and getting ready for Christmas Eve, Father Christmas will be making a special stop in Darwen alongside his favourite elves for a magical hour of festive fun.
The interactive 60-minute show is packed with silly stories, festive surprises, laughter, noise and plenty of nonsense. Children and grown-ups can enjoy a truly magical Christmas experience before meeting Father Christmas and posing for a special photograph to remember the occasion.
Choose Your Storytelling Session
Storytelling sessions will take place at:
- 10.30am
- 12.30pm
- 2.30pm
Places are limited, so families are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.

“Entertaining for children and grown-ups alike. A fantastic experience.”
“My face hurt from laughing.”
“Thank you so much for this priceless Christmas memory.”

Make a Day of Your Visit
The storytelling experience is just one part of a packed programme of festive entertainment taking place across the town for Darwen’s annual Christmas Lights Switch-On.
Families can spend the day enjoying seasonal activities such as our Elf Trail, festive attractions and live entertainment before gathering for the big switch-on moment. The celebrations will then culminate with a headline performance from dance music favourites Ultrabeat, providing the perfect finish to a magical day in Darwen.
A Magical Christmas Tradition
The storytelling sessions have become a firm favourite with families and offer a wonderful opportunity to create magical Christmas memories. With a fantastic programme of events planned across the town and Ultrabeat headlining the switch-on, there’s plenty for visitors to enjoy throughout the day.
