A week of free, family fun, activities at Darwen Market during February half term has been hailed a success and is now set to return for the Easter holidays in April.
Hundreds of local children and their families took part in free holiday activities over February half term.
The activities provided by the Markets Team at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, in partnership with award winning Crafty Vintage, were designed to provide young people with opportunities to create, relax, learn, laugh, make friends and have fun during the half term holidays at Blackburn and Darwen Markets.
The scheme, called ‘Let’s Make’, was run by a variety of hand selected tutors, artists and performers. The programme included traditional entertainment with magic shows, face painting and crafts, alongside some different activities, such as caricatures, pottery making and story mixing.
Cllr. Phil Riley, Executive Member for Regeneration, said;
“It’s excellent that so many people visited Blackburn and Darwen Markets this February half term. Young people will have benefited from taking part in the engaging and entertaining activities, whilst their families have had the chance to browse the fantastic stalls in our markets.”
Laura Johnson from Crafty Vintage said;
“The activities were very popular and were extremely well attended – we were delighted! A lot of people could not believe the quality of the offer and the fact that it was free to everyone. There were lots of happy young people and as a result parents too!”
She went on to say;
“I would like to thank all the market traders and the markets team who were so supportive in promoting Let’s Make and welcoming us in to the Market. We are already firming up activities for the Easter Holidays!”
