A fiercely independent grassroots venue bringing original live music, touring artists, DJs and emerging talent to the heart of Darwen.
Sunbird Records is an independent label, recording studio and grassroots live music venue built around original music and alternative culture.
The venue opened inside a former town-centre bank in 2016, with its basement vault transformed into a recording studio. Since then, hundreds of artists from Darwen, across the UK and around the world have performed on its stage.
From rock, punk and metal to indie, electronic music, jazz and DJ nights, Sunbird’s programme is proudly varied. It is a place to discover emerging artists, support local talent and experience live music in an intimate setting where the audience is always close to the action.
Sunbird Records is receiving new support through the Darwen Community Fund, backed by the Darwen Town Board as part of the Government’s Pride in Place programme.
The funding will help strengthen Sunbird’s live programme as the venue celebrates its tenth anniversary, grow its audiences and create wider benefits for Darwen’s music scene and evening economy.
It forms part of the first wave of the Community Fund, which is investing more than £270,000 across twelve local projects. The Town Board committed £250,000 of capacity funding to establish the pilot scheme and support early improvements across the town.
