A much-loved Darwen park with mature trees, open green space, historic features, community gardens and a recently transformed children’s playground.
Whitehall Park was the first public park to be created in Darwen, opening up green space for local people to enjoy long before the town’s other major parks followed.
Today, its mature trees, open lawns and winding paths still provide a peaceful place to walk, relax and spend time outdoors. Visitors can also discover the rose and sensory garden, community orchard, restored drinking fountains and other features reflecting the park’s long history.
The Whitehall Park Supporters Group continues to care for and improve the space through planting, maintenance, volunteering and community activities.
Whitehall Park’s popular playground was completely renewed in 2024 following years of campaigning by local supporters.
The park received a £100,000 playground makeover as part of a wider £200,000 council investment shared with Bold Venture Park. The project delivered modern play equipment, with additional funding also secured for a cycle track designed to help younger riders practise and build confidence.
The completed playground opened during summer 2024 and has given families another reason to spend time outdoors, play together and enjoy one of Darwen’s best-known green spaces.
